Missed Home Learning

Stanchester Academy operates a three strikes policy in relation to missed home learning.

  1. The first time a student misses a piece of home learning in any subject this is recorded on arbor with no negative weighted points (information only).

  1. The second time a student misses a piece of home learning in a single subject in a single term this is recorded on arbor with 1 negative home learning point. Parents/carers will receive an automated email explaining two pieces of home learning have now been missed from this subject.

  1. In the unlikely event a student misses three pieces of home learning in a single subject in a single term this will be recorded on arbor with 2 negative home learning points. The class teacher will also phone home. The student will then need to sit a one hour after school detention at 1450 on Wednesday in order to catch up on the missed home learning. Should the student complete all missed home learning (to a satisfactory standard) by the Tuesday lunchtime (the day before the detention) and inform their teacher of this, the detention will be cancelled.

Each term students have a “clean slate”.

Support

Should students need support with a piece of home learning they should consider the following

  • Our online home learning platforms (Sparx , Bedrock, Educake) have support resources such a videos and examples built into them. Students should ensure these have been used

  • Students should talk to the teacher who set the home learning, this member of staff is best placed to understand what has been set and the student's current level of knowledge/understanding on this topic.

  • If students have an issue that effects their home learning in all subjects, such as extenuating personal circumstances, they should discuss this with their tutor.

  • Support with home learning is also available in learning zone 2 on the 2nd Tuesday of each half term.
