I would like to thank all families who completed the Remote Learning Survey. (If you haven’t had a chance yet, the survey is still open and can be found here
Following feedback from both the Student and Parent Survey, we have created a Stanchester Wellbeing Group on Microsoft Teams. The aim of this group is to share useful resources to support you while your family are learning from home. We will also offer weekly ‘drop in’ sessions with our Mental Health Leads, Ms Gale and Ms Cunningham, from 2.45pm – 3.30pm on a Tuesday afternoon. If you would like to join the Stanchester Wellbeing Team, please log into your account and join using this code: 5k1tb08. Urgent safeguarding requests should still be sent to Teresa.Priest@stanchester.co.uk as per our Safeguarding Policy.
Following questions from families this week, please watch this short video here outlining our expectations of students’ remote learning and how they should expect feedback from their subject teachers. Please watch this with your child and contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
In summary, the video explains:
- How to monitor the work your child is receiving and submitting.
- Students will receive whole class feedback every 4 lessons. This will be delivered as part of the ‘live lesson’ and will offer praise and identify strengths as well as explain areas for improvement to students.
- Students should submit their work at the end of the lesson even if it is not finished. We encourage students to try their best during each lesson and then to “turn in” each assignment. (The buffer of a daily 5pm deadline may be helpful is students have technical issues.)
- Where to seek further support with well-being and with Remote Learning
Finally, in response to the survey, I am mindful that the current national lockdown is putting pressure on all of us. We are here to support our students and their families and I recognise that students would rather be in school seeing their peers and interacting with their teachers in person. As I told students in my assembly, I am humbled by their enthusiasm for learning and their exceptional efforts in their assignments. I would like to give students a chance to be away from their screen on Friday 5 February 2021 from 1.20pm onwards. This means there will be no live teaching for Years 7-11 and no assignments set in that lesson. Students in school will take part in practical workshops away from their computer screens.
IT and Microsoft Teams Support
IT support is available to all students by contacting the BTCT IT Helpdesk at: email@example.com or calling 01935 676 255 to leave a voicemail and we will help as much as we can. When contacting the helpdesk, make sure you leave your name and contact number.
On Wednesdays from 3-3.30pm there is an online technical support drop-in session for anyone who is experiencing technical difficulties with online learning. To join the session, simply click on the link below.

For safeguarding reasons, your camera must be switched off and these sessions will be recorded.
Please be mindful that we register students who are working from home using their attendance to the live part of the lesson. If your child is unable to attend their live lesson, a reminder to please report absence via the office email firstname.lastname@example.org . This is the same if students are unable to attend school in person.
By way of reminder, please be aware there is a scheduled staff INSET day on Friday 12 February. I can confirm the school will not be open during February half term.
At this time, we do not know when the school will be allowed to widen provision beyond children of key workers and those deemed vulnerable during term time. The Prime Minister’s announcement this week suggested the Government may look to Monday 8 March to widen school opening, but this has not been confirmed. We have been assured we will receive re-opening guidance at least two weeks ahead of any changes and I will be sure to inform you as soon as we know more.
