Parent Update 11 February
11 February 2021
As the days are getting longer and lighter, I am filled with hope optimism for the days ahead. Despite the challenges we are still facing, we have absolutely come together these past six weeks and I want to extend my thanks to all members of our school’s community for their support as we find ourselves in the last week of this half term.
I can only reflect on what a whirlwind start to the year we have had and be amazed by how quickly our staff and students have adapted yet again. With lessons now live and online, staff and students now experts at Microsoft Teams, Assignments and Forms, I am starting to think about some of the skills our students have developed including their ability to intrinsically motivate themselves; being able to prioritise tasks; their technical skills and their organisation. These skills will be useful to students in the months and years to come as we look ahead to life beyond the pandemic and I am immensely proud of how they have embraced the opportunity to develop them.
It has been an absolute pleasure to speak to so many of you recently and to hear the gratitude and praise for our staff and school community as well as your feedback and suggestions. Our mantra for this half term has been “Feedback is a Gift” and your feedback has been invaluable in helping us to shape our support of the young people in our care this term.
Finally, I anticipate two important announcements after the half term break: guidance about the wider opening of schools and the decision around how we will allocate Year 11 grades. As soon as I have this information, I will be sure to share it with you along with our local response to any new guidance.
I hope you have a safe and restful break over the half term. I know I will have my nose in a book rather than at a screen!
