Parent Update 1 April
1 April 2021
Ahead of students’ return to school in March, I shared with you our two priorities: keeping our school community safe and helping students to make accelerated academic progress. I am so proud of students and staff in how they have committed to these priorities and returned to school with a true sense of community.
Students at Stanchester Academy are keen to learn, enthusiastic and grateful, and our teachers feel a great sense of fulfilment to be teaching in classrooms again. Adjustment is not always easy but I am very proud of the way the community has forged ahead with such energy. We feel optimistic about the future of our school and hope you do too.
This is an important period for our Year 11 students. They have shown dedication and focus in their mock exams and we know they will want to work hard to ensure they are well prepared for any further assessments next term as we build a portfolio of evidence to generate their Centre Assessed Grade. We are holding various revision opportunities for Year 11 including during the Easter holidays and as part of our Raising Attainment programme. Your support in ensuring your child continues to show commitment to their learning is really appreciated and will ensure they achieve the best outcomes they can.
On the 22 February, school leaders were advised by the DfE that enhanced guidance around mask wearing etc. would be reviewed at the end of the Spring term. We are yet to receive communication on this. Should we have further details before the holidays, I will send these on to you. However, we may receive guidance over the break. I will ensure this is sent to you by email if this is the case. Until we hear otherwise, our intention will be to maintain our Covid measures, including masks inside the building and classrooms; social distancing; strict hand hygiene and year group bubbles. Our normal school uniform rules and standards will of course apply.
Lateral flow testing for COVID-19
During the Easter holidays, students should continue to use their COVID-19 Self-Test kits to administer tests and report their results to the NHS website. They have been given additional test kits in order to do this. I have re-attached the Information Booklet for your reference.
Further guidance can be found via the information booklet sent home with your child, or please use this link: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/95 7271/COVID-19-self-test-instructions.pdf
Staff will continue to test twice weekly at home using the NHS track and trace test kits.
I am delighted to let you know that Ms Butler and Mr Meadows have been appointed to our Pastoral Team as co-Heads of Year 9. While we are saddened to be saying goodbye to Mr Le Gassick, we wish him the very best in the future as he goes to fulfil a lifelong ambition of working for the Metropolitan Police. I know staff and students will join me in thanking him for his enormous dedication to the school.
We are also saying goodbye to two colleagues on our support staff tomorrow, Mr Callis and Ms Blatch. We wish you every success in the future and thank you for your efforts to support our students in your time here.
Finally, I would like to let you know that Miss Forward will be taking her position as Headteacher on 1 May 2021. From this date, I will continue to support the Senior Leadership Team in my role as Director of Education for the Trust. I would like to thank all families for your support during my time as Acting Headteacher. Stanchester Academy is a truly special place to be and I look forward to continuing to work with a dedicated staff body who offer their great experience of our community, and I know they will be instrumental in taking Stanchester Academy onto the next stage of its journey.
As ever, we are all here to support students and families so do get in touch if there is anything you need or if you have any questions.
